Benchmark Survey Spotlight

This article is the second in a series to explore the implications of the results from the 2013 IAEWS Global Benchmark Survey. The first article can be found in the newsletter archive located in the Employment Site channel on Weddles.com.

This year’s survey found that fewer than one-out-of-five of the respondents (18.8 percent) currently offer a recruitment option other than job posting (e.g., a short list of pre-screened applicants for an additional fee). Is that a problem? Possibly. Is it shortsighted? Definitely.

Every IAEWS Congress opens with an Industry Keynoter and concludes with a Keynote by one of our customers – an employer’s talent acquisition executive. We’ve heard from the VP or Director of Recruiting at ADP, Coca Cola, McGraw Hill, SAIC, Hyatt, Scripps Health and many others.

While the vocabulary and emphasis in the presentations of each of these executives has been unique, their message has been remarkably similar. As one of them put it, they want us to “stop selling subscriptions and start selling solutions.”

What do they mean by that statement? They believe there are two irreducible truths about their talent acquisition challenge:

  • First, it is too complicated to be solved by recruitment advertising alone.
  • and

  • Second, their challenge is unique and unlike that of any other employer.

In order to meet their challenge, therefore, they are seeking multifaceted recruiting and sourcing resources. They want to work with organizations that can be a one-stop source of a range of talent acquisition tools which they can tailor into their own unique solution.

Achieving that capability isn’t a trivial challenge, but the reward for doing so can be significant. Our Industry Keynoter at the IAEWS Fall Congress was Mike Durney, the new President and CEO of Dice Holdings, Inc. He estimated the 2013 online recruitment advertising market as follows:

  • US: $2.4 billion
  • International: $2.4 billion
  • Total: $4.8 billion, up 2 percent from 2012.

Becoming a talent acquisition solution provider puts employment sites into that market AND into an even larger one – the staffing market. And, Staffing Industry Analysts has estimated that market at $100 billion.

Now, obviously, employment sites are unlikely to compete in all segments of the staffing market, but certainly they can compete in several, and doing so dramatically expands their potential revenue and increases their bottom line.

Be At Your Best With the Best Tools

Customers often ask employment sites either to recommend additional tools they can use for sourcing and recruiting or for the sites to provide them with additional sourcing and recruiting support. IAEWS Employment Web-Site Resource Directory

If your organization is selling a product or service to job boards and other employment sites, the IAEWS Employment Web-Site Resource Directory is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to promote it.

What makes the Directory special? It connects with your prospective customers in not one, but two ways:

  • First, the Directory will be linked from the Home Page of the IAEWS Web-site so it’s front and center with both IAEWS Members and other site visitors; and
  • Second, a hard copy version of the Directory will be distributed to delegates at all IAEWS Congresses.

In short, you get a two-fer: both virtual and real world visibility.

In addition, the Directory will be featured in regular e-blasts to the IAEWS membership and to the employment sites on the mailing list maintained by WEDDLE’s Guide.

The Employment Web-Site Resource Directory will go live in early January 2014, so don’t delay. The closing date for insertion orders is just around the corner. For additional information and to place your insertion order, contact the IAEWS at director@employmentwebsites.org today.
